How to visit Mount Athos
Step 1 — Get a Permit
Apply for a Diamonitirion at the Pilgrims’ Office in Thessaloniki (109 Egnatias Street) or Ouranoupoli. You’ll need your personal details and ID. The permit is valid for 4 days.
Step 2 — Reserve a Monastery
Contact the monasteries you plan to visit and book your stay in advance. Availability is limited, so flexibility with dates is often needed.
Step 3 — Travel to Mount Athos
Travel to Ouranoupoli and take the ferry to the Athos peninsula (Daphne or Agia Anna). Arrive early to collect tickets and board on time.

Only men are permitted to enter Mount Athos (Avaton). Visitor numbers are limited daily. Booking early is strongly recommended.
